Manticao-based LGBTQIA organization marks CSO accreditation

With this accreditation, Manticao Pride becomes an “official” partner of the LGU particularly when it has LGBTQIA-related efforts.

Stressing the need to be “officially” recognized as it hopes to effect changes in the lives of LGBTQIA people in the Municipality of Manticao in Northern Mindanao, local community-based LGBTQIA organization Manticao Pride celebrated its recognition by the local government unit (LGU).

With this accreditation, Manticao Pride becomes an “official” partner of the LGU particularly when it has LGBTQIA-related efforts.

“We were already okay with just organizing as a non-partisan LGBTQIA organization,” said Mark Gil Dagapioso, who helms Manticao Pride. “But this could help broaden our advocacy, and thus our efforts to help our community.”

With the accreditation, Manticao Pride hopes to “continue what we started,” Dagapioso said, stressing that now, though, they want to “push harder” to make sure that the LGU’s anti-discrimination ordinance is passed to “guarantee the protection of the human rights of LGBTQIA people here.”

For more information, or if intending to join Manticao Pride, head to the group’s Facebook page, call/text 0956 827 5335, or email markgildagapioso@gmail.com.
