Promote Genuine Equality

Metropolitan Community Church-Metro Baguio’s call for the President Benigno Aquino III to work for real equality for all Filipinos.

By Metropolitan Community Church-Metro Baguio

Dear PNoy,

As you take on the task as the highest leader of this land of million brave Filipinos, we recall your inauguration statement that your “boss” would be us, the people. We know that the task you have in your hands won’t be easy specially when pressures from left to right continue to hound your leadership.

We from the Metropolitan Community Church of Metro Baguio, an ecumenical human rights fellowship of lesbians, gays, bisexual, transgenders and heterosexual Christians are aware of the “pressures” from the religious conservatives particularly the Roman Catholic church to further deny our community of our rights for equality and liberation. We have fought valiantly for years for equal representation in government. Many of us have fought with you in EDSA but we continue to struggle for our rights to be recognized by the state.

Hence, we hope your administration would finally respond and support efforts that promote genuine equality by passing the anti-discrimination bill and legislate an anti-hate crime law.

We will continue to be vigilant and stand up for equal rights for all sexual minorities under your administration.

God bless the LGBT community.
