As its contribution to the 16 Days of Activism to End Gender-based Violence, The Rainbow Rights Project launches its interactive infographic-quiz to raise awareness on the instances and different forms of violence committed against women, including lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (LBT) women.

In the Philippines, the 16 Days of Activism stretches to 18 days to include December 12, the International Day against Human Trafficking.

The infographic-quiz hopes to focus the conversation of gender-based violence on lesbian, bisexual, and transgender women. It encourages everyone to count from one to 18 before reacting to or repeating statements that are included in the interactive quiz: “Ask yourself: Is this true? Is this harmful to anyone? Does it spread hate and disrespect?”

The Rainbow Rights Project’s online campaign is its firm assertion that lesbian, bisexual, and transgender women are women too. Anecdotes of lived experiences of violence of LBT women reveal that the discrimination and stigma faced by LBT women make them even more vulnerable to gender-based violence.

“Even repeating seemingly harmless statements such as ‘A real man can set any lesbian straight’ is damaging to LBT women, and helps perpetuate stereotypes that are pushing LBT women deeper into silence,” said Angie Umbac, president of The Rainbow Rights Project.

To join the conversation on ending violence against LBT women, search #16Days, #18Counts, #LGBT, and VAW on Facebook and Twitter.

The Rainbow Rights Project is a not-for-profit and non-partisan non-government organization that works to help create an environment that truly upholds the human rights of all and ensures equal opportunity for everyone regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity. It is a member of the Alternative Law Groups (ALG), Philwomen on ASEAN network, Women Human Rights Defenders International Coalition (WHRD), Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD), and AMARC (World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters) – Asia Pacific.
