Sining Lahi Polyrepertory celebrates 44th year, themed ‘Saranggola’

Sining Lahi Polyrepertory (SLP) celebrated its 44th Alumni Homecoming, titled “Saranggola,” last October 11 at Fonda Garden Manila.

Sining Lahi Polyrepertory (SLP) celebrated its 44th Alumni Homecoming, titled “Saranggola,” last October 11 at Fonda Garden Manila.

Inspired by the symbolism of the saranggola (kite) — said to be a metaphor for freedom, creativity, and collective ascent — the homecoming “embodied SLP’s enduring journey through the years,” SLP stated in a press statement. “Much like a kite that rose higher with the strength of the wind, SLP continued to ascend, guided by the artistry, resilience, and unity of its members across generations.”

This event was spearheaded by the current SLP members, led by the membership department, with the contribution of alumna Maria Trinidad Jimenez who helped reconnect alumni from various generations.

Among the guests were Dr. Segundo “Dodie” Dizon, SLP founder and former UCCA Director; Prof. Milagros Dela Costa, former Artistic Director; Prof. Alyssa Mae Resurreccion, current UCCA Chief of Dance and Drama; Mx. Istifen Dagang Kanal, current Artistic Director; Edgar Santos, Hollywood artist; Paul Jake Paule, actor and director; Kathy Arguellas, actor and director; Maria Alilia “Mosang” Bagio, television and theater actress; and Katrina Bernardo, television and theatre actor.

The program also revisited SLP’s history, tracing its evolution as a creative and cultural theatre collective within the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.

The homecoming also ushered the opening of SLP’s 44th Theatre Season, themed “De-Kuwatro: Hubog, Danas, Sining, Buhay.

De-Kuwatro stands as a posture with purpose, “an image of balance, reflection, and transformation. It symbolizes how SLP continues to ‘sit with’ the pressing realities of theater and society, confronting them with art and courage. Through this season, SLP honors the resilience of its artists and reaffirms its mission to turn lived experiences into meaningful art that sparks both understanding and change.”
