The latest ad from McDonald’s, a fast food chain, features a lesbian couple, helping increase LGBTQIA community visibility particularly this June, when much of the world follows US by marking this as “Pride Month”.

In this new commercial, a female skater repeatedly circles the ride-thru, ordering various items off the menu, even hinting at a flirtation between her and a female crew member. They are eventually revealed to be romantically involved, as they depart the fast food chain while holding hands.

Interviewed by ABS-CBN, McDonald’s Philippines’ corporate relations director Adi Hernandez said that though the ad was local (i.e. for the Philippine market), “it was important that this love story is depicted as a regular, everyday occurrence at McDonald’s Philippines. Gender inclusivity is ingrained in our brand experience from our customers to our employees,” Hernandez was quoted as saying. “No matter who you are, you are welcome and safe to come back here again and again – that’s what we wanted our audience to know. We wanted to do it right, and we wanted to make sure they (the actors) felt comfortable.”
