GenSan to host 1st Pride-related gathering on Dec. 1

General Santos City’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community will be holding its first ever Pride-related gathering on December 1, just as the world observes the World AIDS Day.

General Santos City’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community will be holding its first ever Pride-related gathering on December 1, just as the world observes the World AIDS Day.

The event – considered an “equality parade” – is helmed by the local government unit’s City Population Management Office (CPMO), with another similar event (already) being eyed by the LGBT community itself this February 2017.

According to local trans leader Andrea Faith Mahiwaga of the Transgender GenSan Organization, this is a timely gathering since “hindi pa naipasa ang anti-discrimination ordinance ng GenSan (the local anti-discrimination ordinance has yet to be passed). This is a way for us to show that we have a unified voice as a community, and that we should be heard.”

A march that will stress the local LGBT community’s push for an ADO will be held from 7:00AM, starting at Tuna Park (Lion’s Beach). There will similarly be a sports fest for the members of the LGBT community.
