In a effort to further educate Filipinos, particularly those at the grassroots, about the issues that intersex Filipinos face because of their sex characteristics, the leaders of Intersex Philippines, Inc., along with partner organization Mujer-LGBT Organization, Inc., headed to the Municipality of San Remigio in the Province of Cebu to teach Intersex 101.
This is necessary, according to Jeff Cagandahan, executive of IXPI, the pioneering organization for intersex people in the Philippines, for as long as intersex people continue to be mischaracterized, and their issues continue to be ignored.”
According to Municipality of San Remigio mayor Mariano R. Martinez, welcoming IXPI and Mujer-LGBT Organization, Inc. is aligned with the LGU’s effort to broaden its gender equality, diversity, inclusion efforts, while also promoting human rights for all in the locality. This, according to the mayor, strengthens the LGU’s attempt to build a community that is inclusive, equitable, and just to all.
The effort to teach Intersex 101 has brought IXPI to various parts of the country, with Cagandahan stressing the need to bring knowledge and awareness to communities themselves.
