Joel Rey Carcasona is the new Mr Gay World 2021 after South Africa’s Louw Breytenbach relinquished his title due to a contract dispute with the organizer. With Carcasona’s elevation, both of the concurrent Mr Gay World titleholders now come from the Philippines, with Kodie Macayan earlier winning as Mr Gay World 2020.

Twenty-eight year old Carcasona – who hails from the central Philippines region of Cebu City – is a registered nurse. During the 2021 pageant, he placed first runner-up, aside from taking the Social Media Presence category.

“I look forward to using my new profile to push for my advocacy, which is universal health care and welfare of the people especially the LGBTQ+ community, since it’s very timely, especially now that we are still in the clutches of the pandemic,” Carcasona said.

Carcasona’s appointment also means that the Philippines has held the title since 2019, when Janjep Carlos won.
