In a bid to curb anti-LGBTQIA sentiments, Vietnam’s health ministry released a document that stated that “homosexuality cannot be ‘cured’, does not need ‘to be cured’ and cannot be changed.”

This actually came after it received reports of doctors claiming they could treat gender minorities.

Being gay is not a disease, the document stated, as it urged medical professionals to be “respectful” of gender and sexual orientation.

“Do not consider homosexuality, bisexuality or being transgender a disease,” it said.

Vietnam actually lifted its ban on same-sex marriage in 2015, even if it still did not grant full legal recognition for those unions. Also, a long-promised law to allow legal gender changes has not yet materialized.
