In South Carolina in the US of A, the Senate approved via 28:8 vote a House bill that eyes to outlaw medical care for transgender youth. It now heads back to the House that will consider the Senate amendments to the bill.

The anti-LGBTQIA bill specifically eyes to:

  • eliminate the use of puberty-blocking drugs, hormone therapy, and gender reassignment surgery for those under 18
  • allow puberty-blocking drugs for minors diagnosed with conditions like precocious puberty or endometriosis who use puberty blockers as treatment
  • ban the South Carolina Medicaid Program from providing coverage for minors and adults

If passed into law, South Carolina will become the 25th American state to outlaw medical care for transgender youth.
