Intindihin ang ‘Cagandahan Bill’: Hindi ito katarantaduhan, ito ay katotohanan

Without fully understanding the Cagandahan Bill, too many people criticize the proposal to simplify the changing of names and sex/gender markers of intersex Filipinos. It is time to educate yourselves, says Jeff Cagandahan of Intersex Philippines Inc.

Para sa mga nagsasabing ang Cagandahan Bill ay “kabaklaan”, “katangahan” o “kalokohan” lang: Malaking MALI po kayo.

Hindi po ito “biro” o “trip lang.” Noong 2008, ang Supreme Court mismo ang nag-decide sa kaso ko (G.R. No. 166676). Nanalo ako dahil napatunayan sa medisina at batas na ang pagiging intersex ay isang biological REALITY.

​​HINDI ITO “KABAKLAAN”: Ang pagiging intersex (tulad ng condition ko na Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia) ay tungkol sa HORMONES at CHROMOSOMES mula pagkapanganak. Hindi ito tungkol sa sexual orientation. BIOLOGICAL sex variation po ito.

SURNAME KO PO ITO: “Cagandahan” is my family name. Nakakalungkot na dahil lang sa sobrang GANDA ng apelyido ko e ginagawa nating katatawanan ang buhay ng mga taong naghihirap kumuha ng tamang birth certificate at ID.

​HINDI ITO “KATARANTADUHAN”: Ang “katarantaduhan” ay ang pagpilit sa isang tao na mabuhay sa maling sex marker kahit iba ang sinasabi ng science at ng sarili nilang katawan.

​Sana po, bago tayo mag-comment ng “kabaklaan,” alamin muna natin ang difference ng Biological Sex sa Gender Identity.

Ang intersex Filipinos ay matagal nang “invisible” sa lipunan. Panahon na para kilalanin kami nang may respeto.

​Respeto sa batas. Respeto sa siyensya. Respeto sa kapwa.
