It is often said that the very nature of travel has the ability to expand your mind. You get out of your usual routines and comfort zone. You get to experience things that you may have never been exposed to in your everyday life. And you can learn about people who are different from you and their unique ways of life.

Try a Different Mode of Travel

If you are the type of person who is accustomed to hotels or rental homes, then you might be ready for something different. If nothing else, trying a new mode of travel will expand your travel repertoire. Rent an RV and experience the lure of the open road. You get to go where you want and when you want to go. Book a spot at an RV park near some of the places you want to go, and you will be in the perfect location to explore the country while slowing down and taking it all in at your own pace.

Try a Different Experience

If you have an affinity for modern art or Broadway shows and tend to focus your travel around experiences that involve these things, it might be time to expand your horizons. While it is great to know what you like, it can also be enriching and fun to try something different. Look for opportunities that you would normally not gravitate toward and give them a try. You never know what might happen on vacation.

Remember to Try to Find Joy in Your Partner’s Interests

If you are kind of a my way or the highway type of person, especially when it comes to travel, that is great for you. You get to do whatever you want. But think about the person you are traveling with. Your partner probably feels unheard and possibly a little bit unfulfilled. After all, if you spend all of your leisure time doing what you want just to make you happy, you should ask yourself if they are happy, too. Make a change to how you do things on your next trip. Talk with them about their travel goals and wishes. Ask them to help plan the vacation and ensure you include things that you both want to do.

Be Open to People Who are Different than You

As you travel across the country, you will inevitably encounter people who are different from you and the people you usually surround yourself with. While you might not generally gravitate towards certain individuals due to safety concerns, there might be others with whom you could create a connection, but might hesitate because they are different. But remember, you are different from them. Try to keep an open mind. When you meet someone new, put your stereotypes and assumptions aside. Ask them if they can recommend anything fun to do in their hometown. Compliment the area. Ask them about their history and experience there. You might not change the world, but perhaps both of you will come away from the encounter with a more open mind about someone who is different.

Traveling with an open mind means expanding your horizons, being patient, and trying new things that might be outside your comfort zone. Try changing your mindset on your next travel adventure and see what happens.
