Zamboanga City-based Mujer LGBT Organization, Inc. is pushing for the establishment of an LGBTQIA+ council, a step it sees as “institutionalizing the meaningful participation of LGBTQIA+ communities in local governance and ensuring that our voices, experiences, and rights are reflected in policies and programs that affect our lives.”
Already, an ordinance – No. 2026-61 – authored by Zamboanga City councilor Gian Enriquez has been approved on first reading, with Mujer LGBT Organization, Inc. stressing that “this landmark measure (recognizes) the importance of inclusive governance.”
The LGBTQIA+ organization is now calling on the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod “to continue supporting this proposed ordinance through the succeeding stages of the legislative process.”
“For many years, LGBTQIA+ advocates have worked tirelessly for meaningful representation in decision-making spaces. Today, we move one step closer to that goal. (We remain) committed to working with the city government and all stakeholders to ensure that no one is left behind in building a Zamboanga City that upholds equality, dignity, and human rights for all.”
