USA = Land of the not so free?

Convicted felon TV personality Donald Trump, who was reelected as America’s president, cancelled executive orders that promoted diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and promoted the human rights of minority people including LGBTQIA and racial minorities.

“This week, I will also end the government policy of trying to socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life,” Trump said in his inaugural address, adding that under him, the land that used to be referred to as the “land of the free” will “forge a society that is color blind and merit-based. … As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female.”

As reported, Trump eyes to sign more executive orders to review and potentially end “discriminatory programs”, including environmental justice grants and diversity training initiatives.

With these executive orders, federal funds will no longer be allowed to be used to promote “gender ideology”, an anti-LGBTQIA term used by people with extremist right-wing politics. US funding will also be withheld on gender transition medical procedures, including for transgender people in the military.

Also, since the US Supreme Court already ruled (via Bostock v Clayton County) in 2020 that civil rights protections against discrimination “on the basis of sex” applied to sexuality and gender identity, Trump’s people are now looking for ways to limit the protection afforded to LGBTQIA people.
