The city of Mandaue in Cebu Province is slated to host the first-ever “Mandaue City Transgender Conference” to put a spotlight on some of the biggest issues affecting members of the trans community particularly in these parts of the Philippines.

To be held at Mandaue City Sports Complex on June 11, 2022, from 10AM to 5PM, the event will feature Dr. Thad Deo Allireva, who will discuss the Importance of Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy (GAHT) and his experience in providing medically-supervised GAHT to trans patients; Dr. Ame Lopez, member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), who will discuss WPATH’s “Standards of Care” a guide for clinicians in providing trans health services; and Maria Eda Catabas, who will discuss the need to advocate the need for legal gender recognition policy to address problems faced by trans people because the gender in their legal documents does not match their gender identity.

According to Ms Catabas, efforts like this gathering could help in pushing for trans human rights. “We can win this together,” she said.

The event is backed by Mandaue City LGU, Mayor Jonas Cortes, Dmitri Cortes, Peachy Rivera, CURLS, Magdalena Robinson, and the 6014 Mandaue Pride 2022 organizing team.

Call him A.M. (short for Albert Magallanes, obviously; though - he says - also to "signify being on the go, as people tend to be in the mornings"). A graduate of BS Physical Therapy (in DLS Health Sciences Institute), he found his calling ("Sort of," he laughed) attempting to organize communities ("While having fun in the process," he beamed). For instance, in Las Piñas where he is based, he helps helm an MSM group that has evolved from just offering social events to aiding its members as needed. He now writes for Outrage Magazine as the Las Piñas (and southern) correspondent.
