N+ issue lingers on; vice chair also resigns, ‘adviser’ said to take the reins

The vice chairperson of the beleaguered N+ has resigned, following the chairperson who alleged ineptitude, malversation and outside influences on the group. With the power vacuum, unelected “advisers” are gaining footing in the HIV network.

The beleaguered Network of Positive Advocates of the Philippines, Inc. (also known as the Network Plus Philippines or N+) remains in limbo with the Vice Chairperson of the Board of Trustees also resigning approximately two months after being elected into the post.

Outrage Magazine spoke with the former vice chairperson, but no elaboration was given on his decision to dump N+.

This move actually follows the earlier hasty resignation of its now-former Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, who alleged that N+ lacks independence, is grossly mismanaged (and has issues with ineptitude, and malversation within), and has a “willingness to turn a blind eye to these issues for the sake of maintaining a positive public image.”

Already, as an impact of these allegations, eight Visayas-based organizations separated from the network; in a statement, they expressed their intent to independently “embark on a new journey”.

With the power vacuum, at least one of the three “technical advisers” has been trying to intervene; his very presence in that capacity is, however, being questioned because, as the former chairperson noted, no board resolution exists or has been shown to them to justify the very presence of these advisers, much more grant them authority over the Board of Trustees.

Outrage Magazine has contacted these “technical advisers” via Messenger. Only one answered, stating that he is unable to release any statement since “I am not privy to the concerns, nor I am consulted on the matter.” He, instead, suggested that communications be directed to the remaining members of the N+ Board of Trustees “for their course of action”.

Also earlier, and related to this, Positive Action Foundation, Inc. (PAFPI) released a statement to distance itself from the troubled group; the organization’s name was involved due to an alleged misrepresentation within N+. According to by Joshua C.T. Formentera, Jr., PAFPI’s chairperson emeritus, “our organization has never sent any representative to attend their meeting or to represent PAFPI in any capacity.”

Outrage Magazine also sent Messenger messages to the remaining officers of the Board of Trustees, as well as convenors from Luzon and Mindanao; only one answered as of press time, even if others have “seen” the messages sent to them.

According to the convenor, the remaining members have already assigned an officer in charge. Their decision will then be “presented” to the unelected “technical advisers”, though he is unable to discuss why this needs to be done at all. WITH STEPHEN CHRISTIAN P. QUILACIO
