More anti-LGBTQIA Republican-led initiative in the US.

In Texas, extremist right-wing Republican Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill – dubbed “Save Women’s Sports” – into law to ban transgender people (though mainly transgender women) from participating in college athletics based on their gender identity.

Abbott’s law (Senate Bill 15) – which requires college athletes to participate in sports based on the gender on the sex assigned at birth – actually only expands on a similar bill signed into law from the last session, with the earlier law restricting trans athletes from playing middle and high school sports based on their gender identity.

This new anti-transgender bill will take effect in September.
