Business owners can now mark their businesses as “LGBTQ-friendly” and/or as a “Transgender Safe Space” on their Google listing to let customers know that they are “always welcome” in these spaces. The attributes appear on any business’ Google listing on Maps and Search.

This move was announced by Google via a blog post from Arjan Dijk, the company’s VP of marketing and global executive sponsor of Gayglers (Google’s LGBTQ+ employee resource group).

To date, over 190,000 businesses have already enabled the “LGBTQ-friendly” and “Transgender Safe Space” attributes.

The company provided a step-by-step guide for businesses that want to enable the aforementioned attributes:

  1. Log in to your Google My Business account. On your Google My Business dashboard, access the Info tab.
  2. Click on the Attributes section of the listing editor.
  3. Search for attributes such as “Transgender Safe Space” and/or “LGBTQ-friendly,” click on the relevant tag below, and then click “APPLY.”
  4. Your business should now be listed with the relevant attribute(s).
