San Mateo in Rizal is slated to hold its very first Pride event on June 25 in what is hope to “commemorate the LGBTQIA community’s struggle for equal rights, while also celebrating its diversity, thereby promote acceptance and inclusivity,” said Tower Samodio, chairman of LGBTQ+ San Mateo.

As part of the Pride event, to be held will be Advocacy Talks, which is expected to allow LGBTQIA-related discourses to be discussed with the local LGBTQIA community members; of course, the parade; and an after-parade party.

For Samodio, that they now have their own Pride event shows that they’re now seen somehow. “Ito ay nagpapahiwatig ng pagmamalaki at pagkilala sa ating pagkakakilanlan, partikular na sa konteksto ng LGBTQIA na komunidad.”

This Pride event is supported by the GAD office of San Mateo; the Municipal Office of the Mayor San Mateo, Rizal; and LYDO.
