America’s convicted felon president, Donald Trump, is a Nazi?
LGBTQIA+ rights group Bahaghari slammed the reelected rightwing US president Trump, who, in his inaugural speech, highlighted the new “golden age” American policy to “will ‘”only recognize two genders: male and female”.
“A strongman scapegoating the marginalized — in this case, the LGBTQIA+ community — is a tired Nazi script. Trump’s speech is a shallow attempt to divide the working-class who have made recognizable strides in terms of civil and democratic rights, especially for gender recognition and equality,” said Bahaghari chairperson Reyna Valmores Salinas.
Salinas likened Trump, a former TV personality who packaged himself as a successful businessman belied by his string of bankruptcies, to Adolf Hitler, who declared the Jewish people an enemy. For Salinas, therefore, Trump is “creating another artificial bogeyman to distract from the fact that his policies are nothing more than laws in favor of American capitalists, at the expense of American workers and all working people around the globe chafing under US imperialism.”
“To conceal the roots of the exploitation faced by ordinary citizens, populists like Trump divide us and make enemies out of each other: first immigrants, and now the LGBTQIA+ community. History has taught us to resist such tactics,” said Salinas.
Bahaghari is urging the American public to be critical. “You have infinitely more in common with your neighboring LGBTQIA+ workers than you do an authoritarian like Trump who rakes billions from the exploitation of people’s labor. Working people of diverse genders are your allies, not your enemy. Exploitative bureaucrat capitalists like Trump are the enemy.”
The Philippines, particularly under the presidency of Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., has been clamoring for US’s attention. And Salinas said that it is unfortunate that “given the US’ vice grip on countries like the Philippines economically, politically, and culturally, “we may see anti-LGBTQIA+ and anti-equality sentiments be emboldened as a result of Trump’s statement. Filipinos, as well as all equality- and peace-loving citizens of the world, must push back to preserve the victories we have made towards gender equality. Let us be brave enough to speak out against the imperialist US government which remain to be the #1 threat to human rights, democracy, and equality in all forms across the globe from Palestine, to the Philippines, and even to its own people in America,” Salinas ended.
