The city of Pasig has joined the growing number of local government units (LGUs) to pass an anti-discrimination ordinance (ADO) that protects the human rights of people no matter their sexual orientation, and gender identity and expression (SOGIE).

Based on firsthand reports posted online, the ordinance almost failed to pass due to the city’s councilors not showing up for a session to discuss the ADO. However, the city’s Vice Mayor Iyo Caruncho Bernardo and councilor Rhichie Brown – the main author/sponsor of the ADO – forced for it to be tackled, requiring the councilors who already left the session to be called back.

Others who supported passing the ADO were councilors Cory Raymundo, Syvel Asilo, Edith Santiago, Reggie Balderrama, and Sngguniang Kabataan Federation president Ghia Clemente and Liga president Rigor Enriquez.

The ADO is now awaiting the signature of Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto.
