Legalizing transgender discrimination in Wyoming.

A law – Senate File 99 – was signed in Wyoming to ban gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors, with rightwing governor Mark Gordon claiming that this bill will support minors, even as he also acknowledged that it could amount to the government “straying into the personal affairs of families.”

Aside from surgeries (e.g. castration, vasectomy, hysterectomy, et cetera), the law also prohibits providing or administering transgender-specific prescription drugs (e.g. puberty blockers).

Under this anti-LGBTQIA law, medical practitioners – including doctors, pharmacists and other health care providers – who provide gender-affirming care could have their licenses suspended or revoked.

In a statement, Libby Skarin, acting executive director for the ACLU of Wyoming, stated that by signing this bill into law, the politician Gordon “has put the government in charge of making vital decisions traditionally reserved for parents in Wyoming.”

“This ban won’t stop Wyomingites from being trans, but it will deny them critical support that helps struggling transgender youth grow up to become thriving transgender adults,” Skarin stressed.
