All the way for LGBTQIA support in Thailand.

In Thailand, a marriage equality bill passed a first reading in the Upper House, an essential step that will bring the country closer to becoming Asia’s third territory, and the first in Southeast Asia to legalize same-sex unions.

Earlier, 96% of the members of the Lower House passed the bill.

This time around, the bill sailed through the Senate’s first reading in a 147:4 vote; the second and third readings are slated to happen in July.

If/when approved, it will then be sent to the royal palace for the king’s assent; after this, it becomes law within 120 days.
