The Society of Trans Women of the Philippines (STRAP) is hosting a two-day summit that is being eyed to be the country’s transgender community’s “launching pad for planning, responding and resisting the crises confronting transpinays today”.

Titled “KarapaTRANS: A Transpinay Summit on Trans Rights, Justice, and Futures”, the event is scheduled on September 4-5, 2025 at the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) of the Philippines in Quezon City.

This event, therefore, hopes to push current discourses as transgender Filipinos “envision a future where transpinays live free, recognised, and thriving”. Among topics to be discussed are: the Simplified Legal Gender Recognition Bill; confronting the epidemic of transfemicide and anti-trans violence; building strategies for trans-inclusive education, healthcare, and decent work; and forging solidarity across feminist, LGBTQIA+, and human rights movements.

The event is supported by the Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines, UP Center for Women’s and Gender Studies, PFIP – Philippine Financial & Inter-Industry Pride, HASH – HIV & AIDS Support House Inc., and testmnl.org.
