How to make the most of your technology

We take a look at five ways you can ensure you’re getting the most from your technology. You paid enough for it, so make sure it works to the max.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past 20 years, you’ll probably have plenty of technology in your name, many of which you’ll use every day. But here’s a question for you: Are you really unleashing the power of your technology? Laptops, smartphones, tablets, and the rest can do some pretty amazing things these days, a lot more than even five years ago.

Below, we take a look at five ways you can ensure you’re getting the most from your technology. You paid enough for it, so make sure it works to the max.

KNOW THE BEST SOFTWARE FOR YOUR USES

Not all software is created equal, or anywhere even close to equal for that matter. If you’re still using the software that came preinstalled on your device, then the chances are that you’re not using the best available software. Take Windows, for example. If you bought a Windows laptop and didn’t know about better, you might use internet explorer as your default browser. Of course, Internet Explorer is a bit of a longstanding joke, so everyone uses Firefox or Chrome. But what other software might be just as bad, which you don’t know about?

LEARN HOW TO USE ITS FEATURES

The software you’re using will often be updated, and as such it might have many more features than you know about. Microsoft Word and Excel, for example, will almost certainly be able to do more than you realize; it’s because most of us figure out the basics, and then never dive any deeper. You can learn all that your essential programs can do by taking a course with Training Connection. With that knowledge, you’ll be able to work and play more efficiently than ever before.

CONNECT IT WITH OTHER TECH

No man is an island, and neither is the majority of tech these days. You can sync up many of your devices, either through Bluetooth or the internet, as is increasingly common. A lot of the devices in your home will be capable of controlling your home, via the ‘Internet of Things’. Tech is supposed to be about added convenience, and it doesn’t get much more convenient than turning off your lights from your phone.

KEEP THINGS UP TO DATE

A lot of people take great care with their devices. They’ll buy protectors, store them away, and otherwise make sure that no harm goes their way. They do all this, and then they forget to update their software. For your devices to be at their best, they need to be kept up to date. Doing so will unveil new features and make them more secure.

KNOW ITS LIMITATIONS

There’ll come a time when you have to replace your tech. Nothing lasts forever, though some computers are better equipped to fight time than others. If your device is to be sluggish or freeze, then it might be time for an upgrade. Once you’ve upgraded, you’ll be able to access all the new software that is only compatible with the latest devices.
