Outrage Magazine, EU Bahaghari deliver SOGIE talk in Enverga University

Outrage Magazine partnered with EU Bahaghari in Enverga University in Lucena City to give a talk on sexual orientation and gender identity and expression (SOGIE) and SOGIE-related issues. “For our efforts to be truly inclusive, we have to continue reaching out… and going out of the usual paths to reach those who may not have heard of our issues, but also deserve to hear about us,” said Michael David dela Cruz Tan, publishing editor of Outrage Magazine.

As an attempt to continue making as many people as possible understand the LGBT community’s issues, Outrage Magazine partnered with Bahaghari Center and with EU Bahaghari in Enverga University in Lucena City to give a talk on sexual orientation and gender identity and expression (SOGIE) and SOGIE-related issues.

The talk was part of the gender awareness program of Enverga University, helmed by Danilo Aureada, EU Bahaghari adviser, and Maria Isabel Granada, prefect of discipline at the office of student affairs of Enverga University. Over 1,200 students joined the gathering.

“We recognize that most of the discussions concerning LGBT people only happen in cosmopolitan areas, particularly Metro Manila. I’d say this is not surprising because of the continuing so-called ‘centralization of knowledge’ and of ‘centralization of representation’ there. However, we who are working to advance LGBT human rights should be aware that solely focusing our efforts there fails to include majority of the people we claim to serve. For our efforts to be truly inclusive, we have to continue reaching out… and going out of the usual paths to reach those who may not have heard of our issues, but also deserve to hear about us,” said Michael David dela Cruz Tan, publishing editor of Outrage Magazine.

For EU Bahaghari founder, and now Outrage Magazine youth representative Aaron Bonette, moves like this are important to “make true our push to have as many people – LGBT or not – understand the issues that we face.”

The SOGIE discussion formed part of pinkink.

It was also supported by #HateWatchPH.
