Sesame Street – yes, that TV show for kids – marks LGBTQIA Pride

Sesame Street called for the celebration of “diversity and unity” and the spreading of “love and acceptance” since “together, we can make the world a kinder place for all.”

Sesame Street – that American educational children’s television series known for combining live-action, sketch comedy, animation and puppetry – has expressed its support for the LGBTQIA community with a tweet to mark the observance of June as Pride month.

As per the tweet, Sesame Street called for the celebration of “diversity and unity” and the spreading of “love and acceptance” since “together, we can make the world a kinder place for all.”

The move may seem small, but Sesame Street is a long-running show that started in 1969 (the same year when LGBTQIA New Yorkers revolted against State abuses via the Stonewall Revolt) reaches approximately eight million viewers every week in the US alone.

It has been ranked 30th on the list of the 60 best TV series of TV Guide in 2013; and as of 2021, it has received 205 Emmy Awards.
