The local government unit (LGU) of the City of Las Piñas hosted this year’s Pride-related event for the local LGBTQIA community, helmed by the Villar Foundation at the Villar family-owned The Tent.
The city still does not have an anti-discrimination ordinance to protect its LGBTQIA constituents, and yet the Las Piñas event did not focus on LGBTQIA people’s human rights or lack thereof.
Instead, highlights included a parade in the vicinity of the properties of the political family Villar, with the event culminating in a beauty pageant to name the first-ever “Bahaghari Queen”.
Speaking during the event, Sen. Mark Villar noted that with LGBTQIA people in need of support, those in leadership positions should ensure the same is given to this still-struggling community.
A first class highly urbanized city in the National Capital Region, Las Piñas has a population of 606,293 people (based on the 2020 census), living in 20 barangays. Local representations were required from the barangays, with attendance sheets distributed along with food stubs and pledges of ayuda post-event.
