America’s reelected president Donald Trump, a former TV personality who is their country’s first criminal president, signed another executive order, this time specifically targeting the transgender community by prohibiting gender transitions for people under the age of 19.

Moving forward, “it is the policy of the United States that it will not fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support the so-called ‘transition’ of a child from one sex to another, and it will rigorously enforce all laws that prohibit or limit these destructive and life-altering procedures,” the executive order states.

In this order:

  • the terms “child”/”children” refer to individual/individuals under 19 years old
  • the term “pediatric” refers to the medical care of a child
  • the phrase “chemical and surgical mutilation” entails puberty blockers, and use of hormones like estrogen or testosterone, and surgical procedures

Though a legal document, Trump’s executive has falsehoods – e.g. alleging that doctors are ”maiming and sterilizing a growing number of impressionable children under the radical and false claim that adults can change a child’s sex through a series of irreversible medical interventions”.

For Trump, it’s a “dangerous trend that will be a stain on our Nation’s history”, and so US will not “fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support the so-called ‘transition’ of a child from one sex to another”.

There are scientific studies showing that many transgender and non-binary young adults desire gender-affirming medical care (GAMC) in adolescence, even before they turn 18.

Also, as noted by the American Psychological Association, there is a body of “medical and psychological research supporting the positive impact of such treatments in alleviating psychological distress and improving overall well-being for transgender, gender diverse and nonbinary individuals throughout their lives.”
