To advance intersex awareness and, hopefully, inclusion, Intersex Philippines Inc. (IXPI) conducted an Intersex 101 workshop in Pasig City. The effort was supported by the Pasig City Gender and Development (GAD) Department, which helped gather Pasig City-based stakeholders, health advocates, academe representatives, and human rights advocates.
“This serves as an important space for dialogue, learning, and collaboration,” said Jeff Cagandahan, executive director of IXPI, “highlighting the lived experiences of intersex persons, addressing common misconceptions, and exploring concrete ways to integrate intersex concerns into local programs, policies, and services.”
Intersex people, stressed Cagandahan, continue to be made invisible even within the LGBTQIA+ community, and so efforts advancing awareness, inclusion, and the recognition of intersex issues and rights are necessary.
The workshop was part of IXPI’s Intersex Awareness Caravan, which brings the Intersex 101 teaching nationwide. It is supported by Outright International, and Mujer-LGBT Organizations Inc.
“Together, we continue to amplify intersex voices and advance a future where intersex persons are recognized, respected, and fully included in society,” Cagandahan ended.
