Miss Deaf Gay Philippines 2007

TransDeaf Philippines (TDP) – an arm of the Pinoy Deaf Rainbow (PDR), which is the pioneering organization for Deaf LGBT people in the Philippines – has announced the scheduled holding of the Miss Deaf Queen Philippines (MDQP) 2015 on November 28.

Said to be “more than a parade of beauties,” MDQP aims to “empower trans and gay Deaf Filipinos to present themselves,” said Disney Aguila, head of TDP.

“The event looks at providing a fine, dignified and beautiful way to encourage Deaf gay and transgender people to build self-confidence, self-esteem, and many other life skills,” added Henry Lee Perey, president of PDR.

The first beauty pageant for Deaf LGBT Filipinos happened in 1991. It was organized by the Philippine Association of the Deaf (PAD), which folded to give way to the Philippine Federation of the Deaf (PFD). In 2007, a pageant was organized by the Philippine School for the Deaf Alumni Association (PSDAA).

PDR eventually organized the MDQP with the Manila Deaf Pink Club in 2012; with this year’s event co-organized with TDP.

Twenty candidates are expected to join this year’s pageant, coming from all over the Philippines, where PDR has chapters.

The coronation night on November 28 (from 7:00PM) will happen at the Asemblea Magna (Main Theater) of Tanghalang Pasigueno, City Hall Complex, Brgy. San Nicolas, Pasig City.
