Ateneo Libulan Circle organizes MoonLIT LGBTQ+ Festival in Ateneo de Davao University

Pride Week 2018 will involve the MoonLIT LGBTQ+ Festival, Siplat Pride Film Competition and Festival, Pride March, and Gender Equality-themed human rights forums.

The Ateneo Libulan Circle will be celebrating its 1st Birthday and Pride Month this coming June 25-30, 2018 in the Ateneo de Davao University, Jacinto Campus. This is co-organized with SAMAHAN Welfare, and in partnership with Adarna House and the Olympus Society of Davao.

Pride Week 2018 will involve the MoonLIT LGBTQ+ Festival, Siplat Pride Film Competition and Festival, Pride March, and Gender Equality-themed human rights forums.

Specially for the promotion of local culture and arts, the MoonLIT Festival will have three main events:

  1. Pop-up Pride Bookshop (June 25-29), which will feature local and international LGBTQ+ titles. Many of these books are generously donated by LGBT+ allies in the Philippines and abroad.
  2. Libulan LGBT+ Writers Workshop (June 27, 8-3 pm), wherein fiction, poetry, drama, and screenplay manuscripts in Binisaya and English will be under the guidance of LGBT+ writers, such as gay fictionist R Joseph Dazo, queer poet-essayist Alton Dapanas, lesbian poet Ria Valdez, pansexual poet David F Lao, and bisexual poet Mariel Alonzo.
  3. Book Launch of “Libulan: Binisayang Antolohiya sa Katitikang Queer” (Cratos Publishing House, Inc., 2018) edited by Dazo and Dapanas (June 27, 4-6 pm), which will also feature talks from LGBT+ writers and artistic performances.

The MoonLIT Festival is in collaboration with the Libulan Queer Collective, a writers bloc of queer poets, essayists, fictionists, and playwrights from Visayas and Mindanao, and with the gracious support of BooksActually (Singapore), Platypus Press (UK), The Proud Trust (UK), Graywolf Press (US), and SAND Journal (Germany).

Pride Week serves as a hopeful opening salvo to a more colorful and inclusive school year 2018-2019, artistically themed as BlackOUT.

For inquiries, book orders, or sponsorship/partnership requests, feel free to contact Mariel Alonzo at 09275499729.
