In Cebu, where the local government unit already passed an anti-discrimination ordinance (ADO) to protect the human rights particularly of LGBTQIA people, the Cebu Normal University (CNU) released guidelines for the 42nd Commencement Exercises Dress Code that specifically bans graduating students from using clothes aligned with their gender identity.
Said to adhere to the “released dress code approved by the Office of the Student Affairs”, the guidelines states that “strictly no cross-dressing” is allowed in order to “preserve the solemnity and dignity of the occasion.”
Graduates are expected to wear clothes based on their assigned sex at birth.
And so for those assigned female at borth, dresses are strictly one-inch above the knee (no longer than the toga), shoes are closed toe, and jewelry should preferably be limited to earrings and bracelet only.
For those assigned male at birth, long sleeved shirt of Barong Tagalog are recommended, paired with black pants and black shoes.
