To generate broader support in advancing the positive impact of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) to the economy, Intersex Philippines, Inc. (IXPI) is holding a series of workshops for decision-makers in the country’s private sector.

Dubbed “Promoting Rights and Inclusion through Diverse Engagement” (PRIDE), the workshops aim to stress that “kapag may equality, happy ang economy (when there’s equality, the economy is happy).”

“Engagement is important,” said Jeff Cagandahan, executive director of IXPI, adding that since this is “the first time we collaborated with those in the private sector, it could broaden support in advancing DEI, and the impact of people from various sectors to the economy no matter their SOGIESC.”

Earlier, in Bohol, IXPI trained 16 participants, while in Quezon City, 24 people were trained.

For Cagandahan, teaching about intersectional issues is a must. “People need to understand that human rights are interconnected with labor issues… such as those encountered in the private sector. And so we’re hoping people start understanding basic principles related to these.”

Already, IXPI is scheduled to host a summit to highlight best practices related to DEI in the private sector in the Philippines this June, recognized as the Pride month to mark the ongoing struggle for equality of LGBTQIA people.

IXPI is the pioneering organization for intersex people in the Philippines.
