Bermuda’s Supreme Court overturned the island’s short-lived ban on same-sex marriage, paving the way for same-sex marriages to resume in Bermuda and on Bermuda-registered cruise ships.

In 2016, voters actually rejected referendum questions that asked whether same-sex marriage should be legalized, although less than 50% of the voting population turned out to vote. But a Supreme Court case last year legalized marriage equality, even if island politicians later introduced the Domestic Partnership Act in parliament that sought to ban same-sex marriage. This act was signed in February and took effect on June 1. The hight court’s recent ruling, however, nullified this discriminatory act.
