Pride march slated in Metro Manila on June 20

A Pride event is slated for Metro Manila this June 20, eyeing to revert back to the roots of Pride as a protest, hoping to highlight social issues still affecting particularly the local LGBTQIA community.

Prep the rainbow flags as a Pride event is slated for Metro Manila this June 20.

Themed “Pride during the pandemic”, the event – not affiliated with the commercialized annual Pride gathering – actually eyes to revert back to the roots of Pride as a protest, hoping to highlight social issues still affecting particularly the local LGBTQIA community, from COVID-19 and the inability of LGBTQIA Filipinos to access services from the government particularly at the time of the pandemic; non-passage of the anti-discrimination law; trans murders; etc.

Quezon City, home of the first Pride march in the Philippines (and in Asia), will host this year’s march, after the Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) granted the organizers approval to hold the event.

Assembly is at 3:00PM at the parking area of Philcoa in Quezon City; with the march to the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) starting 4:00PM. A program will follow also at CHR.

Due to COVID-19, organizers will be strictly implementing social distancing, and the wearing of face mask and face shield.
