Rainbow rising in Slovenia, where the parliament – voting 48:29 – passed an amendment to allow same-sex couples to marry and adopt.

In July, Slovenia’s highest court ruled that the law defining marriage as only between a man and a woman discriminated against LGBTQIA couples. And so it suspended the contested articles, and then ordered the parliament to amend the text within six months.

With the ruling made by the constitutional court, Slovenia became the first former communist country to endorse this reform in Eastern Europe.

Slovenia emerged from the break-up of Yugoslavia.
