In a move to highlight LGBTQIA discrimination in educational institutions in Batangas City, artists are showcasing their works via the ‘Colors of Inclusion’ art exhibit from March 9 at the Museo, People’s Mansion, Provincial Capitol Complex.

The event – showcasing the artworks of Andrei Navarro, Clarence Perez, Ericson Miranda, Harold Arce, Iko Bonbon, JM Maduro, Justin Paul Ramirez, Keziah Mae Perez, Laurence Penaverde, Paul Danao, Rio Telmo, and Will Bautista – is more particularly a critique on the alleged discrimination of transgender students at the Batangas State University and the University of Batangas.

“We hope to create an environment where community members, including artists, are able to support equality and human rights particularly of LGBTQIA people,” said Aivan Alvarez, executive director of Batangas-based LGBTQIA organization Wagayway Equality, and an alumni of the ASEAN Queer Learning Program (AQLP).

Alvarez added that “art has the power to transcend boundaries and ignite conversations that lead to positive social change.”
