Toyota Motor Corp. (TMC) announced that it is planning to move away from diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and pro-LGBTQ efforts, and will, instead, “narrow community activities to align with STEM education and workforce readiness”.
This development, which was first reported by Bloomberg, came after an extremist anti-woke “activist”, one Robby Starbuck, detailed various pro-equality efforts in the company, including funding groups opposing laws to ban gender affirmation treatments, forming Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) divided by race and gender orientation, sponsoring a drag queen program at a summer camp for kids, and participating in the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index.
TMC sent out a memo to its US employees last week, where it stated that it will continue to “encourage an inclusive environment where diversity of thought can flourish,” but moving forward, it will now be primarily focusing on activities that promote the quality of the business.
“We will work to ensure that the activities and events are focused on professional development, networking, mentoring and volunteering — team member engagement that drives our business. Furthermore, we will work to ensure all company activities are aligned with our values and create an inclusive environment for our team members,” the memo supposedly read.
TMC is not the first company to cave in to anti-LGBTQIA parties. This August, Ford Motor Company also confirmed that it would distance itself from “woke” policies, as was contained in a letter from Ford CEO Jim Farley to employees.
