In Iloilo City, an office eyeing to supervise the affairs of the LGBTQ+ community was created via Executive Order No. 046, signed by Mayor Raisa S. Treñas.
This is supposed to “bolster and strengthen” the city’s policy “for inclusion and diversity”, considering that in 2018, it passed an anti-discrimination ordinance (Regulation Ordinance No. 2018-090) to prohibit all forms of discrimination including those based on SOGIESC.
The Office of the LGBTQ+ Affairs will be under the Office of the City Mayor, and will be staffed by a director (Jefferson S. Clamor), community organizer/outreach person (Henry Canilao), and empowerment officer (Yzabelle Pastelero).
They are expected to help implement the city’s anti-discrimination ordinance.
But they are similarly expected to bolster the city’s LGBTQIA+-related efforts, particularly:
- SOGIESC caravan
- HIV awareness
- Trans health education
- Linking to employment
- Gender justice programs
- Community organizing
The executive order is effective immediately.
